I’ve been renting on Marco Island for 15 years. The unit I’m staying in has been sold and the new owner will not be renting. I’m trying to find a suitable place for next year, but am finding it difficult. A number of owners are saying they are holding off until they find out what happens with the proposed rental rules. I’ve even looked at some older units in need of refurbishment and asked if they might consider modest remodeling and the response has been they don’t know if they will be renting at all because of the new fees that likely will be required.
It breaks my heart, but I’m looking elsewhere now as I just can’t find anything suitable. I hope people come to their senses. Marco is wonderful, but it seems like they no longer want renters and will soon become an exclusive community only available to the super-wealthy. It’s a shame
