Trying to figure out where to go and what to do over Memorial Day Weekend? Come stay in beautiful Marco Island. You will find that there are plenty of stunning Marco Island rentals that will serve as a home-away-from-home during the holiday weekend, and there are tons of things going on. Let’s take a look at some of the special events that will be happening and where you should head for a great meal to celebrate an important national holiday.
What to Do
Marco Island is best known for its white sandy beaches and cool sandbars where you can watch wildlife passing by and hunt for seashells. You could literally spend hours in the water, swimming and shelling at your leisure.
During Memorial Day Weekend, take a break from swimming to do some shopping. Conveniently located near many Marco Island waterfront rentals, the shops are within walking distance for some folks. However, if you need to park, know that parking can be limited during busy holiday weekends such as this. Tigertail Beach has parking for $8 per vehicle, and South Marco Beach Parking has the same fee but only offers 70 parking spots.
Activities
Activities span the year-round on Marco Island, and there is never a dull moment. So, what should you do while you’re here? Head out on the water with one of the local charters. You will see the area’s amazing ecosystem in action. Also, the creepy, long-abandoned dome home of Cape Romano provides a stellar photo op. It might not be around much longer by the looks of things, so see it while you can.
If you want to head indoors for a bit, the Marco Island Historical Museum is a ‘must-see’. It details Marco Island’s rich culture and history, and there is a 27-minute film you can watch that explains how Marco Island became the tourist destination it is today.
Briggs Nature Center is perfect for those who want to take a quiet, leisurely stroll through nature. You can walk the trails or even rent a canoe in order to experience the vast wildlife that calls this place home.
Events
Special events will be running all weekend long. The Island Rocks Concert Series will be held in the Veteran’s Community Park and is free to get in. It starts off with Color Guard members presenting the flag, which is followed up by everyone singing the national anthem. Local acts will then take the stage for a rockin’ good time.
The Memorial Day Ceremony is scheduled to take place on Memorial Day, in Veteran’s Park. It starts at 11:00 a.m. and runs for a full hour. The ceremony honors our Armed Forces with songs and speeches. After that, you can check out the Freedom Fountain memorial in the park which commemorates those who have been lost while serving.
Where to Eat
You might not have heard of it, but Snook Inn is impressing locals and tourists alike. Arrive by foot, car, or boat and dine while watching boats passing on the horizon. If you order an entrée, you get a free trip to the salad bar.
Bistro Soleil is another favorite location for folks, so make sure you book this one in advance. You can order delicious entrees and amazing desserts. The black Virginia ham comes highly recommended, as do many of their pies.
Plan Your Marco Island Visit
Make sure you book your rental early since this will be a busy weekend! There are still a good number of beautiful Marco Island condo rentals up for grabs. Snag a 1- or 2-bedroom condo, whichever fits your needs. You will get to enjoy a stunning view of the ocean and can come home from your Memorial Day festivities to relax in peace and comfort.
